The Ball-Watson Community Engagement Foundation, Inc. (BWCEF), launched its Bridge Scholarship Award for minority students at Jenkins County High School in October of this year. The first scholarship will be awarded to a selected graduating student from the class of 2017. The graduate will receive a $2,000 book stipend and a laptop computer. Students can begin applying now, and the deadline for entries is March 31, 2017. All scholarship details can be found on the foundation's website at www.BallWatsonFoundation.org.

BWCEF was created by Millen, GA, natives, Mario Ball and Charles Watson, Jr., based upon their conviction that when individuals from smaller communities and lower income families are given the tools to succeed, they excel.

Both Ball and Watson saw it important to make community engagement the cornerstone of the foundation because they wish to include the community in its fundraising and volunteer initiatives. With the Bridge Scholarship Award being the first of many community programs to come, the founders generously pulled their personal resources together to make it a reality. It is their hope that future programs will be financially supported by members of the community as well.
